What to do
Summer Internship Program
The Office of the Assessor-Recorder seeks to invest in a diverse and equitable talent pool through our annual summer internship program. Current high school juniors or seniors who are interested in careers in government may apply to work as summer interns.
Internship program details
- Paid internship: $25 per hour
- Looking for current High School juniors or seniors
- Internship will begin late June and will run through mid-August
- Interns will work onsite at City Hall in San Francisco, 5-hours per day for a maximum of 20-hours per week

About the internship
Interns will learn about and help Assessor-Recorder operations through projects spanning from late June to mid-August. Projects will be selected and grouped based on educational objectives that use skills learned through each successive project.
Below are some examples of tasks that interns will help with:
- Research property details from recorded documents.
- Collect and organize information for Assessor-Recorder staff.
- Learn about different property characteristics and classifications utilizing our new SMART records system.
- Learn about data collection and clean-up.
- Job shadow Assessor-Recorder staff from the start of an assignment to finish and see the outcome of their work.
- Learn how local government works and how to interact with constituents. Learn about the Assessor-Recorder's vital role in the City and County of San Francisco.
- Participate in mentor sessions to help them in their path toward higher education choices and pathways toward permanent City employment and beyond.

- Click on “View Opportunities” at the top of the page.
- Under “View Events and Place Bids,” select “Assessor” from the Department drop-down menu.
- Click on the Sourcing Event that you are interested in bidding on.
- On the Event Details page, you will see the full bid package including the Request for Proposals (RFP) document and any attachments, the due date for proposals, and other instructions for submitting your bid. Interested bidders should check the Event Details page regularly throughout the solicitation process as addenda, amendments, Questions & Answers documents, etc. may be posted at any time.
Become a city supplier
Before submitting a bid, individuals or entities must become a Registered Bidder; before being awarded a contract, individuals or entities must become a fully compliant City Supplier. Please reference the Become a Supplier Guide on the SF City Partner Portal to complete these processes.

Internship program frequently asked questions
Requirements:
- Must be a resident of the City & County of San Francisco.
- Must be a current High School junior or senior.
- Must be available to work late June to mid-August, totaling 6 weeks.
- Must be able to work in-person, onsite 5-hours per day for a maximum of 20-hours per week.
- Must obtain a work permit if under 18 years of age.
- Must pass a fingerprinting background check.
After you apply:
- Your application will be reviewed by the Assessor staff. If your application is selected, you will be contacted for an interview.
How many interns are we looking for:
- 2-3 high school juniors or seniors.
Work schedules:
- Intern will work in-person at San Francisco City Hall 4 days per week (maximum of 20 hours per week) over the course of 6 weeks, starting in late June to mid- August.
Payment schedules:
- Interns will be paid bi-weekly, every other Tuesday. Your first payday will be 3 weeks after your start date. You are also encouraged to enroll in direct deposit to receive your paychecks electronically.
How to dress for work:
- As an intern, you represent the Assessor-Recorder and the City. Interns will be expected to dress for work according to generally accepted business and professional standards set forth by the department. ASR’s dress code is business casual.
- For men, wearing khaki pants or slacks with a polo, but without a tie would be considered business casual.
- For women, common business casual clothing an include a collared or non-collared blouse, dress, or skirt (at or below the knee), slacks, high heels, dress boots, flats.
Work permits:
- If you are under 18, you will need a work permit. Typically, after an employer agrees to hire a minor, the minor obtains from his or her school a Department of Education form titled "Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit." The form must be completed by the minor, the employer, then signed by the minor's parent or guardian and the employer. After returning the completed and signed form to the school, school officials may issue the permit to the minor to be employed to work.
