- And more
Can't find what you need?
The SF311 Mobile App includes the most common issues reported while people are on the go. Not every service request type is available in the app.
You can:
- Call 311 (or 415-701-2311 outside San Francisco).
- Visit sf.gov/311.
- Send feedback if you'd like to see a new service added.
Why do I have to answer so many questions?
SF311 asks only the questions needed to process the request. A photo and location are helpful, but they may not provide enough information to identify the correct service request type or determine what is needed to resolve the issue.
The additional questions help route your request to the correct City department and provide staff with the information they need. This can reduce unnecessary trips and follow-up visits and help staff arrive with the appropriate equipment.
Collecting complete information when the request is submitted helps the City respond more efficiently and make effective use of public resources.
Do I have to give my name or contact information?
For most service requests, you are not required to provide personal information.
When a request asks for contact information, providing it allows City staff to contact you if they need more information to investigate or resolve the issue.
Contact information can also help 311 locate your requests if you lose a service request number. Staff may be able to search using your name, email address, or phone number.

Why is the address different from where I placed the pin?
The address displayed in the SF311 Mobile App is an approximation based on the pin location you selected. The app identifies the nearest property using the property’s center point, which may not match the exact location of the issue.
This is most common for large properties, intersections, alleyways, or locations where a large building is next to a smaller property. The displayed address may be next door or across the street from the issue.
The pin location is the most important part of your report. Before submitting, place the pin as accurately as possible. You can also include the correct address or additional location details in the description.
Track your request
How do I find my requests?
Open the You tab and select Your Requests.
You can also use the Requests screen and filter by Submitted by You.
Why is my request still showing "Submitted"?
If your request remains in the Submitted (orange) status for more than one hour and has not received a service request number, call 3-1-1. From outside San Francisco, call 415-701-2311.
This status may indicate a temporary communication issue between the SF311 Mobile App and the City’s 311 system.
Do not submit the request again. After the issue is resolved, the request should receive a service request number and its status should change to Opened (green).
Why does my request say "Closed" if the problem is still there?
Closed does not always mean the work is finished. Some departments close the request after adding it to their work list.
Read the closure notes for more information.
Why can't I see my old requests?
Your requests are linked to the email address or phone number you used.
If you changed your contact information, call 311. Staff may be able to reconnect your requests.
Settings & notifications
Why did I get a notification?
SF311 will automatically send a confirmation email after you submit your request. The email includes your service request number, which you should use when contacting 311 about your case.
These email notifications are sent automatically and cannot be turned off.
How do I change the app language?
The app uses your phone's preferred language.
To use a different language for only the SF311 app:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap SF311.
- Tap Language.
- Choose your language.
