City services expanding in Vietnamese

Three people stand in front of a table

Vietnamese will soon become one of San Francisco’s required languages under the Language Access Ordinance, joining Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino.

Starting July 1, City departments will begin expanding language services in Vietnamese. Services will expand over the course of a year, with departments expected to follow the new rules by July 2027.

San Francisco’s Language Access Ordinance provides the right to get free help in your preferred language when using certain City services, like:

  • Filling out City forms
  • Notices about City benefits or services
  • Important public service announcements
  • City complaint forms
  • Public meetings (if you ask at least 48 hours in advance)
  • Getting help or information from City staff
