The San Francisco Arts Commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples. As a department dedicated to promoting a diverse and equitable Arts and Culture environment in San Francisco, we are committed to supporting the traditional and contemporary evolution of the American Indian community.

  4. Motion to amend Resolution No. 0601-26-105 to update the loan period and contracting entity name, to now read as: Motion to approve the temporary installation of “Akua,” 2025, by Torkwase Dyson, powder-coated steel and aluminum with eight-channel sound, measuring 20 ft. x 36 ft. x 30 ft., at Civic Center Plaza, to be loaned to the Arts Commission by Public Art Fund Creative Partners LLC for a period of approximately six months commencing September 2026, with funding from the Public Art Trust at a total cost not to exceed $350,000. The Arts Commission will be responsible for maintenance, and the artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  5. Motion to amend Resolution No. 0601-26-106 to increase the not-to-exceed amount from $20,000 to $25,000, with the additional $5,000 designated to cover reimbursable expenses associated with artist travel and artwork packing and shipping update the loan period, and update the contracting entity name, to now read as: Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to enter into a loan agreement with Public Art Fund Creative Partners LLC, in an amount not to exceed $25,000 for the loan of “Akua,” 2025, by Torkwase Dyson, for a period of approximately six months commencing September 2026.
  6. Motion to approve a Sole Source contract with One Hat One Hand LLC DBA Scene 2 for fine art installation services for the temporary presentation of Torkwase Dyson's “Akua” at Civic Center Plaza, pursuant to San Francisco Administrative Code Section 6.73, in an amount not to exceed $334,133.75. One Hat One Hand LLC's specialized expertise in fine art fabrication and installation, proprietary knowledge of the artwork's assembly and technical requirements, and established working relationships with the original fabricator and project team make these services not reasonably available from another provider without risk of duplicative costs, schedule delays, or potential damage to the artwork.
  7. Motion to approve “Tarot, The Fool”, a painted mural by Colette Amirault. The mural will be painted on a SFMTA cabinet on California Avenue and 12th Avenue. The mural measures H71 in. by W36 in. The mural will be maintained by the artist. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  8. Motion to approve “Rhythm of the Block”, a painted mural by Egypt Hagan. The mural will be painted on the street surface, along Keith Street between Armstrong Avenue and Bancroft Avenue, directly across from the Southeast Family Health Center. The mural measures H18 ft. by W40 ft. The mural will be maintained by The San Francisco African American Arts & Culture District. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  9. Motion to approve “Legacy”, a painted mural by Hungry Ghost Mural Productions (David Burke, Pancho Pescador, Joevic Yeban). The mural will be on the wall of the property located at 1165 Folsom Street. The mural measures H23 ft. by W28 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by SOMA West Community Benefit District. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  10. Motion to extend the installation of “Justice” by André Renay, currently installed in the Southeast Community Center’s exterior amphitheater, previously approved under Resolution NO. 0205-24-042 by 12 months so that the total installation period is from February 2024 through February 2027. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection and will be maintained by San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.
  11. Motion to approve the loan of 1960.6, “Untitled”, 1960, fiber rug, by Ida Dean Grae to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for the February 13 through November 14, 2027, exhibition “Go Your Own Way: Northern California Craft, 1945-80” in their special exhibition gallery.
  12. Motion to approve the loan of 1961.12, “Untitled”, 1961, glazed stoneware with fiber cord, by Ernie Kim to the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for the April 10 through October 27, 2027, exhibition “Made in San Francisco” at the de Young Museum.
  13. Motion to approve the Final Design for street surface paving by Barbara Stauffacher Solomon, Mel Vera Cruz, and Muzae Sesay for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Public Art Project, located on Minna and Natoma Streets between Transbay and Third Street.
  14. Motion to approve the Final Design and Construction Documents for sculptural street furniture by Masako Miki for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Public Art Project, located on Minna Street between Second and Third Streets.
  15. Motion to approve the Final Design and Construction Documents for sculptural street furniture by Joye LLC (DBA Jesse Schlesinger) for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Public Art Project, located on Natoma Street between Second Street and SFMOMA.
  16. Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to amend contract with Masako Miki to expand scope from design-only to the design, fabrication, and consultation during installation of sculptural street furniture for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Project and to increase the artist contract budget from $67,514 (as authorized by Resolution No.0507-12-143) to an amount not to exceed $409,525.
  17. Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to amend contract with Joye LLC (DBA Jesse Schlesinger) to expand scope from design-only to the design, fabrication, and consultation during installation of sculptural street furniture for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Project and to increase the artist contract budget from $83,854 (as authorized by Resolution No.0507-12-143) to an amount not to exceed $205,365.
  18. Motion to amend Resolution No. 0602-25-106 to increase the Public Art Trust allocation by $50,000, from $375,000 to $425,000 to contribute to the implementation of sculptural street furniture for the Minna Natoma Art Corridor Public Art Project, which is a voluntary initiative funded in large part by Public Works. This project is located within the SOMA Pilipinas Cultural Corridor.
  19. Motion to approve the modification of 1987.15, “Dancing on the Brink of the World”, 1987, found metal collage on wood with steel brads, by Tony Berlant as part of the San Francisco International Airport Terminal 3 West Modernization Public Art Project. The top portion of 18 panels of the artwork will be trimmed by approximately twelve inches and the two corner panels will be flattened. The modifications will be performed by a conservator and are reversable. The artist has been notified of these modifications per CAPA/VARA requirements and supports the changes to the artwork.

Arts Impact Endowment Grant

Meeting procedures

  1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting. 
  2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting or up to three (3) minutes.  
  3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda. 
  4. Persons who spoke during the public comment period at a meeting of the Arts Commission may supply a brief written summary of the comments to be included in the minutes if it is 150 words or less. The Arts Commission may reject the summary if it exceeds the prescribed word limit or is not an accurate summary of the speaker’s public comment.
  5. Persons unable to attend an Arts Commission meeting may submit correspondence to the Arts Commission in connection with an agenda item. The Commission Secretary will post these documents adjacent to the agenda if they are one page in length. If they are longer than one page, the Arts Commission will make such documents available for public inspection and copying. Please note, correspondence submitted to the Arts Commission will NOT be read aloud during the meeting. Names and addresses included in these submittals will be public. Submittals may be made anonymously. Written comments pertaining to this meeting should be submitted to art-info@sfgov.org.

Public Comment

Public comment in regard to specific agenda items will be taken before or during consideration of the item. Each speaker may speak for up to three minutes per agenda item, unless the Chair has announced a different length of time at the beginning of the meeting. Speakers may not transfer their time to another person. Any person speaking during a public comment period may supply a written summary of their comments to be included in the minutes if it is 150 words or less.
