Artists Hub on Market Residences
Artists Hub on Market Residences is being developed by Mercy Housing at 1687 Market Street and will open 94 new affordable artist homes in early 2028.
Artist Housing Certification gives applicants higher priority in a city-run housing lottery to live at Artist Hub on Market Residences. It does not promise housing.
What the building will have
The building is planned to have:
- Studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom homes
- Rehearsal and practice rooms
- A black box theater
- Arts services
- A café
- A community room
- Roof deck
- Free fiber internet
- Bike parking
- Laundry
- Air conditioning
There will be no car parking. Some spaces, like rehearsal rooms, may cost extra.
Who may qualify
There is a minimum and maximum income requirement based on household size, check 1687market.org for more information.
How the housing process works
To get artist priority for Artists Hub on Market Residences:
- Get an Artist Housing Certification number through an application process in February or July 2027.
- Create a City housing portal account on DAHLIA.
- Apply on DAHLIA for Artists Hub on Market Residences using your Artist Housing Certification number in late 2027.
- The lottery will assign your place in line in late 2027.
- If you are contacted from the list, complete the lease-up process and move in if approved in early 2028.
Lottery priority
The City runs the housing lottery through DAHLIA, its affordable housing portal. You need to create a DAHLIA account and apply separately for each housing opportunity. The lottery happens once for Artists Hub on Market Residences and creates a ranked list of applicants.
Applicants to the lottery with City housing preferences are contacted before people with no housing preference.
Expected order:
- Certified artists with City housing preferences
- Certified artists with no other housing preference
- General public applicants with City housing preferences
- General public applicants with no housing preference
City housing preferences may include Certificate of Preference, Displaced Tenant Housing Preference, Neighborhood Resident Housing Preference, and Live or Work in San Francisco Preference.
Veterans get priority within each group. The City will set the final lottery rules.
Timeline
Early 2027
The first Artist Housing Certification application period is expected to open.
Summer 2027
A second Artist Housing Certification application period will open.
Late 2027
The Artists Hub on Market Residences housing application is expected to open on the City's housing portal (DAHLIA).
Late 2027 or early 2028
City will hold the Artists Hub on Market Residences housing lottery.
Early 2028
Artists Hub on Market Residences will start lease-up and eligibility checks with lottery-selected applicants.
