Event activities needing Fire Department staff

When special events are large or have fire-based activities, we may require Fire Department staff, called "fire watch" at your event.

When you need Fire Watch

The Fire Department determines when an event needs Fire Watch.

They do this when they review your permit application.

Examples of activities include:

  • Large attendance
  • Food vendors or food trucks
  • Temporary place of assemblies
  • When there are changes to fire alarm system during a Place of Assembly event
  • Fire dancers
  • Pyrotechnics
  • Fireworks
  • Propane heaters
  • Mushroom heaters
  • Liquid nitrogen
  • Propane tanks
  • Open flame

You must pay for Fire Watch. There is a 4-hour minimum.

Fire Watch sometimes requires fire trucks or other vehicles.

See the fees for special events.
