Data integrity and performance accountability initiatives

DOSW uses data to inform programming, measure impact and promote transparency and accountability

DOSW believes that data and technological solutions should be implemented to bolster program outcomes, foster transparency, enable the public to have a clear understanding of our work, and to help improve work product. To increase departmental transparency, accountability and integrity, the Department has implemented new IT platforms to create greater accuracy in our data and reporting and reliability in our operations, as well as strengthen efficiencies and eliminate redundancies throughout our portfolio.

Each year, we submit performance metrics to the Controller's office that quantify the number of individuals we serve, language and accessibility measures, community engagement and more.

In 2023, DOSW launched a performance tracking tool across all program lines and is working to consolidate contracts to maximize management of precious public dollars.

In 2024, we launched our first Community Needs Assessment, which creates a data-driven feedback loop that allows the Department to understand the needs and priorities of the community in our core program areas.

In 2025 and beyond, we plan to analyze data and programs that advance gender equity in line with the provisions in the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). San Francisco was the first municipality to adopt a local CEDAW ordinance in 1998.
