SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, October 17, 2025 – The Department of Elections reminds new voters to register by Monday, October 20, 2025, in order to receive a ballot by mail for the November 4 election.

“Voters who register by October 20 will automatically receive a ballot packet in the mail,” said Director John Arntz. “Those who miss this deadline can still register and vote in person, either at the City Hall Voting Center or at their polling place on Election Day. We want every eligible San Franciscan to know that it’s never too late to make their voice heard.”

Local voters can confirm their registration details by visiting sfelections.gov/voterportal or by contacting the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375, emailing sfvote@sfgov.org, or visiting City Hall, Room 48.

Eligible San Franciscans can register, pre-register, or update their voter registration details at registertovote.ca.gov, or by submitting a paper registration form. To receive a ballot by mail for the November 4 election, online registrations must be completed by midnight on October 20, and paper registration forms must be postmarked by the same date.

More information on voter registration, including specific circumstances such as registering while a student, experiencing homelessness, or with criminal justice involvement, is available at sfelections.gov/registration.
