Seat numbers listed as “VACANT” are open for immediate appointment. However, you are able to submit applications for all seats and your application will be maintained for one year, in the event that an unexpected vacancy or opening occurs.

Form 700 Filing Requirement:

Pursuant to the Board of Supervisors Rules of Order all applicants applying for this body must complete and submit, with their application, a copy (not original) of a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). Applications will not be considered if a copy of Form 700 is not received.

Next Steps:

Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be contacted by the Rules Committee Clerk once the Rules Committee Chair determines the date of the hearing. Members of the Rules Committee will consider the appointment(s) at the meeting and applicant(s) may be asked to state their qualifications. The appointment of the individual(s) who is recommended by the Rules Committee will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.

Description:

The African American Arts and Cultural District Community Advisory Committee consist of seven voting members, nominated by the Supervisor for District 10 and appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Members of the Advisory Committee shall reside within the boundaries of the African American Arts and Cultural District and have the following additional qualifications.

  • Seat 1 shall be held by an owner of a business located in the District.
  • Seat 2 shall be held by an employee of a nonprofit organization located in the District.
  • Seat 3 shall be held by a person with knowledge or expertise regarding the history or culture of the District.
  • Seat 4 shall be held by a youth between ages of 14 to 24, inclusive, at the time of appointment.
  • Seats 5, 6, and 7 shall have no additional qualifications.

The Committee shall advise the Board of Supervisors, the Mayor, and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development regarding strategies to support and preserve the unique culture and heritage of the African American Arts and Cultural District and shall provide input to all City agencies in the preparation of reports required under Section 107A.2 of this Code. The Committee shall also advise the Board of Supervisors, the Mayor, and the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development regarding any potential need to re-examine the boundaries of the District.

The Committee members may remain on the Committee until the termination of the Committee, under Administrative Code, Section 5.30-6. Unless the Board of Supervisors by ordinance extends the term of the Committee, and not withstanding Board of Supervisors Rule 2.21, the Committee shall terminate on June 30, 2028.

The Committee shall hold its inaugural meeting not more than 60 days after the Board has appointed at least four members. There shall be at least 10 days’ public notice of the inaugural meeting. Following the inaugural meeting, the Committee shall hold a regular meeting not less than four times a year until the sunset date set forth in Administrative Code, Section 5.30-6.

Report:

The Historic Preservation Commission, Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Arts Commission, Department of Public Works, Planning Department, and the Human Rights Commission shall seek input from the Committee and compile relevant reports and recommendations that shall be submitted to the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development by no later than September 1, 2025.

The Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development shall prepare and submit to the Board of Supervisors and the Mayor a Culture, History, Housing, and Economic Sustainability Strategy Report for the District no later than February 1, 2026.
