Request City Hall lighting

You can request for San Francisco City Hall to be lit in specific colors to honor a cause. City staff review requests each month. Not all requests can be approved.

Who can make a request

  • San Francisco residents, organizations, and City departments may submit requests.
  • Requests are considered for civic events, national days, cause awareness campaigns, and uniquely San Francisco happenings.

What to know before you apply

Submit your request at least 4 weeks before your desired date.

Decisions are based on availability, alignment with priorities, and scheduling conflicts.

We can’t guarantee every request, and plans may change or be canceled at the City’s discretion.

How to submit a request

Fill out the request form. We will ask you about your organization, your preferred dates, and what colors you would like to request.

After you fill out the form, you will receive an automated email acknowledging your request.

What happens after you apply

  • We’ll let you know the decision within 1-2 weeks before the month of your requested date.
  • If approved, you’ll receive an email with confirmation of your date and color.
