Election Topic Spotlight: The Importance of Keeping Voter Registration Updated
In this newsletter, we are excited to introduce our Election Topic Spotlight, where we will highlight specific election topics of significant importance. This month, we’re focusing on the importance of keeping your voter registration updated.
Accurate voter registration is essential to ensuring every voice counts in elections. Voters should update their registration when they move, change their name, political party preference, or want to receive election materials in a different language.
For minor updates, like changing a mailing address, voters can call, email, or use an online form. For major updates, such as a name change or moving to a new address, voters must re-register at registertovote.ca.gov.
We encourage you to help us share this important information with your constituents. Use your social media platforms, newsletters, or community events to amplify this message and ensure every eligible voter is ready for the next election.
Looking Ahead to 2025: Join Our Language Access Advisory Committee
While no elections are currently scheduled for 2025, our outreach efforts remain active and focused. This year presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections with our outreach partners, expand voter education initiatives, and prepare for the 2026 elections.
On that note, we invite you to join the Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) and play a role in enhancing voting access for limited-English and non-English-speaking residents in San Francisco.
Our first meeting of 2025 will take place on February 5, 2 PM–3:30 PM. During this meeting, we’ll reflect on last year’s outreach and share updates on the Language Access Ordinance, including the certification of Vietnamese as a required city language. Sign up to become a member of the LAAC at sfelections.org/laacform and help us ensure that language is never a barrier to participating in elections in San Francisco!

Voices from the Community
We greatly value your feedback and are always eager to hear your thoughts on our outreach efforts. Whether you have positive comments, constructive suggestions, or innovative ideas, we welcome your input. Please share your feedback by emailing us at sfoutreach@sfgov.org.
Here are some of the recent comments we’ve received from the community:
“Thank you so much to your dedicated outreach team for clarifying the complexities of non-citizen voting. Your efforts in providing accurate information not only empower our community but also reinforce the importance of informed participation in our democracy. Your hard work is truly appreciated!”
— George C., Executive Director, Chinese Newcomers Service Center
"This past year my students and I were invited to City Hall to learn about the election process. We had the best time walking around the chamber, watching a presentation, and participating in a fun mock election. We got to register first-time voters too. Thank you to the SF Department of Elections for showing my students that their vote matters!"
— Jennifer N., SFUSD Access Transition Program Teacher for Students with Disabilities
“Working alongside the Department of Elections ensures that we are able to expand civic engagement for immigrant communities in San Francisco. This partnership bolsters our commitment to ensuring all of our communities have knowledge and access to civic participation, including our local elections, regardless of the language they speak.”
— Jorge Rivas, Director of the Office of Civic Engagement & Immigrant Affairs (OCEIA) and Secretary of the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission
