PRESS RELEASE

Free Summer Meals Return for San Francisco Children and Youth

Children, Youth and Their Families

Sites in every San Francisco neighborhood will serve free breakfast, lunch, and snacks to anyone age 18 and under from June 15 to August 14, 2026.

The San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and their Families (DCYF) is pleased to announce that sites throughout San Francisco will serve free, healthy breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to all children and youth ages 18 and under during the months that school is not in session during the summer.

Meals will be served Monday through Friday from June 15 to August 14, 2026. No proof of need, registration, or identification is required. Children and youth can receive breakfast, lunch, or a snack by visiting an open meal site during its designated serving time.

In 2026, DCYF is sponsoring 39 free Summer Meals sites: 14 open to all children and youth, and 25 serving only those enrolled in summer programs at the site.

DCYF has served as the local sponsor of the Free Summer Meals Program for 29 years and provides well over 100,000 meals to children and youth each summer. DCYF partners with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the California Department of Education, and nonprofit and City department partners to provide this valuable resource to San Francisco’s children and youth.

“For many children and youth in San Francisco, the meals they receive at school are the most reliable meals of the day,” said DCYF Executive Director Sherrice Dorsey-Smith. “The Free Summer Meals Program helps ensure young people have access to healthy food when school is out and reflects a shared commitment across our city to support families during the summer months.”
