San Francisco debuts redesigned city website for a more efficient experience

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Today, the City unveiled the new SF.gov website, featuring a user-friendly platform and a new dynamic, visually engaging design. The updated web design, supported by a new content management system (CMS) called “Karl the CMS” makes it easier for users to find the content that they’re looking for and creates a welcoming digital home for San Francisco residents.

Over the weekend, the Digital and Data Services (DDS) team under the Office of the City Administrator successfully migrated the entire SF.gov website to a new Wagtail-based CMS platform, ensuring uninterrupted access to critical services and information throughout the process. The transition to the Karl platform enables SF.gov to align more closely with industry standards, allowing all updates and maintenance to be handled internally and for the City to better meet the diverse needs of City departments and the public. This achievement marks the success of 18 months of dedicated work by DDS to create and implement the first iteration of a more user-friendly interface capable of supporting rapid updates and service requests while offering greater flexibility for developers and administrators.
