Mayor Lurie Signs MOU Between San Francisco And American Chamber Of Commerce In Korea
Office of the MayorSigned in Seoul, Memorandum of Understanding Will Build Upon 50-Year Sister City Relationship, Support Economic Engagement in Two-Year Partnership; Continues Mayor Lurie’s Work to Accelerate San Francisco’s Economic Comeback
SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between San Francisco and the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) building upon the 50-year sister city relationship between San Francisco and Seoul. The MOU will help connect businesses and institutions in the two cities, create opportunities for trade and investment, and support collaboration across key industries. It will also encourage the sharing of ideas, people, and organizations to strengthen the connection between San Francisco and Seoul.
Signed on Mayor Lurie’s first day in Seoul, the MOU builds on his work to accelerate San Francisco’s economic recovery and drive the city’s comeback. Last September, the mayor unveiled his “Heart of the City” executive directive, with more than $60 million committed to the Downtown Development Corporation to foster a downtown where people live, work, play, and learn. Since he took office, San Francisco downtown and business community are coming back, with crime down 40% in Union Square and the financial district, office leasing surging 67%, and San Francisco leading major US cities in return to office rates.
“As San Francisco and Seoul celebrate their 50-year sister city relationship, we are thrilled to celebrate the relationship between our business communities,” said Mayor Lurie. “This agreement will strengthen engagement between our cities’ economies and expand opportunities for trade and investment.”
The signing is another milestone of Mayor Lurie’s first international trip as mayor—visiting China and South Korea to strengthen San Francisco’s sister city relationships with Shanghai and Seoul, deepen arts and culture partnerships, and promote tourism to San Francisco.
