Controller's OfficeThe Inspector General job posting is made public today, along with a status report detailing work done to establish the position.
SAN FRANCISCO — Controller Greg Wagner today issued the following statement coinciding with the publication of a status update on establishing San Francisco’s Inspector General and the official kickoff of the national search for the position:
“Posting the Inspector General position today and officially beginning the recruitment process is an important step towards strengthening the City’s tools for supporting and upholding government accountability citywide. We're also publishing a report documenting our office’s extensive research, subject-matter expert interviews, and best practice reviews on inspectors general in other government agencies. The purpose of this work is to ensure the Inspector General can hit the ground running and be as effective as possible — including in their coordination with partner City agencies like the City Attorney’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and Ethics Commission that have related mandates.
“Our aim is also to provide residents with transparency throughout all the stages of this work and nationwide search — whether they voted for the Proposition C ballot measure or not. We want to be thoughtful and deliberate to ensure the maximum impact of the expanded investigatory powers and resources to focus on proactively preventing, detecting, and investigating fraud, waste, and abuse that the Inspector General affords us.”
