A statement on the passing of Dolores Huerta

Human Rights Commission

All of us at the San Francisco Agency for Human Rights are deeply saddened by the passing of Dolores Huerta at the age of 96. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones, everyone at the Dolores Huerta Foundation, and the countless people whose lives she touched.

Dolores Huerta dedicated her life to ensuring dignity, fairness, and access to opportunity. Her leadership in the farmworker movement and her advocacy for women, immigrants, and communities facing discrimination inspired so many of us who walk in her path. She meaningfully improved lives and inspired generations to organize for justice.

So much of her life’s work speaks directly to ours at AHR: confronting discrimination, standing up for what is right, and making sure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Dolores Huerta deeply understood that lasting change begins when people recognize their own power and come together to exercise it.

Today we celebrate her extraordinary life, and honor her life-changing work.

Sí, se puede.
