The San Francisco Arts Commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples. As a department dedicated to promoting a diverse and equitable Arts and Culture environment in San Francisco, we are committed to supporting the traditional and contemporary evolution of the American Indian community.

  8. Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to enter into a contract with Preservation Arts LLC under Chapter 21 of the San Francisco Administrative Code, in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, for as-needed fine art services to support the Civic Art Collection.

Motion to approve Glasmalerei Otto Peters GmbH (Peters Studio, LLC) as the highest-ranking responsive proposer for the fabrication and delivery of artist-designed artwork glass panels for "Those Who Carry Water" by Walter Kitundu, for the San Francisco Water Department Headquarters at 2000 Marin Street, pursuant to Request for Proposals, Sourcing Event ID 0000011691, as recommended by the evaluation panel.
  10. Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to enter into a contract with Glasmalerei Otto Peters GmbH (Peters Studio, LLC) in an amount not to exceed $1,189,326 for the fabrication and delivery of artist-designed artwork glass panels for "Those Who Carry Water" by Walter Kitundu, at 2000 Marin Street (San Francisco Water Department Headquarters).
  11. Motion to approve “Untitled”, a painted mural by Timothy Bluitt. The mural will be on the wall of the property located at 1145 Folsom Street. The mural measures H36 ft. by W12 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by SOMA West Community Benefit District. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  12. Motion to approve “Isang Mahal”, a painted mural by Daniel Pan. The mural will be on the wall of the property located at Jessie West Alley at Mission Street. The mural measures H30 ft. by W23 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Kultivate Labs, Yerba Buena Community Benefit District, and The Pickwick Hotel.   15. Motion to approve “Icons of Mexican Art”, 1990, a mural restoration by original artist Hector Escarramán. The mural is located on the back fence of the property located at 1113 Treat Avenue on Balmy Alley. The mural measures H5 ft. by W25 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Yano Rivera. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  16. Motion to approve “Hyde in Bloom”, a painted mural by Daryll Peirce. The mural will be on the retaining wall located on the west side of Hyde Street on the Broadway Overpass. The mural measures H3 ft. 6 in. by W71 ft. The mural will be maintained by the artist. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  17. Motion to approve “Coyolxauqui has something to say”, 1972, a mural restoration by original artist Irene Pérez. The mural is located on the back of the property located at 2888 Harrison Street on Balmy Alley. The mural measures H4 ft. by W25 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Yano Rivera. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  18. Motion to approve “No One Should Obey an Unjust Law”, 1996, a mural restoration by original artist Juana Alicia. The mural is located on the back of the property located at 1179 Treat Avenue on Balmy Alley. The mural measures H12 ft. by W10 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Yano Rivera. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  19. Motion to approve “Naya Bihana (New Dawn)”, 2002, a mural restoration led by artist Eric Norberg, selected by original artist Martin Travers. The mural is located on the back of the property located at 1117 Treat Avenue on Balmy Alley. The mural measures H12 ft. by W10 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Yano Rivera. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  20. Motion to approve “Enrique’s Journey”, 2014, a mural restoration led by original artist Josue Rojas. The mural is located on the back of the property located at 2828 Harrison Street on Balmy Alley. The mural measures H12 ft. by W10 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by Yano Rivera. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  21. Motion to approve “Guardians of Cultura, La Risa del Maiz”, a painted mural by Tirso González Araiza. The mural will be on the wall of the property located at 3033 24th Street. The mural measures H14 ft. by W24 ft. The mural is supported by a Community Challenge Grant and will be maintained by the artist. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  22. Motion to approve “SOMARTS – Oasis Under the Freeway”, a painted mural by Twin Walls Mural Company LLC. The mural will be on the wall of the property located at 934 Brannan Street. The mural measures H20 ft. by W18 ft. The mural will be maintained by SOMArts. The artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
  23. Motion to approve the final Construction Documents deliverables, including material samples, for “Cycles of Water and Light,” a ceramic tile mural by Ron Moultrie Saunders for the façade of the Public Utilities Commission’s Treasure Island Water Resource Recovery Facility, located at Avenue M and 10th Street, Treasure Island.
  24. Motion to approve the conceptual design proposal “Bright Prospects” by Christine Wong Yap for the Chinatown Him Mark Lai Branch Library Renovation Project, as recommended by the Artist Review Panel.
  25. Motion to authorize the Executive Director of Arts and Culture to enter into a contract with Christine Wong Yap for an amount not to exceed $160,000 for the design, fabrication, insurance, transportation, and consultation during installation of an artwork for the Chinatown Him Mark Lai Branch Library Renovation Project.
  26. Motion to approve the 6 final designs by Amir Khadar for the 2026 Art on Market Poster Series.

Meeting procedures

  1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting. 
  2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting or up to three (3) minutes.  
  3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda. 
  4. Persons who spoke during the public comment period at a meeting of the Arts Commission may supply a brief written summary of the comments to be included in the minutes if it is 150 words or less. The Arts Commission may reject the summary if it exceeds the prescribed word limit or is not an accurate summary of the speaker’s public comment.
  5. Persons unable to attend an Arts Commission meeting may submit correspondence to the Arts Commission in connection with an agenda item. The Commission Secretary will post these documents adjacent to the agenda if they are one page in length. If they are longer than one page, the Arts Commission will make such documents available for public inspection and copying. Please note, correspondence submitted to the Arts Commission will NOT be read aloud during the meeting. Names and addresses included in these submittals will be public. Submittals may be made anonymously. Written comments pertaining to this meeting should be submitted to art-info@sfgov.org.

Public Comment

Public comment in regard to specific agenda items will be taken before or during consideration of the item. Each speaker may speak for up to three minutes per agenda item, unless the Chair has announced a different length of time at the beginning of the meeting.
