Why do you need a building permit?
Building permits ensure the safety and accessibility of buildings.
When you apply for a permit for your privacy pods, we make sure they will be installed per California State code.
We review the material and placement. We also make sure they are safe in case of a fire, earthquake, or other emergency.
Here are some examples of what you'll need to do:
- Construct the pods with non-combustible materials, and only in non-combustible buildings
- Attach the pods to the ground to prevent rolling and slippage
- Keep a clear path to evacuate the building
- Install sprinklers in pods that are 4 feet or wider
- Install a smoke detector and an audio/visual alarm in each pod, that are connected to the main alarm system
- Comply with Title 24 requirements of the California Energy code
- Meet all accessibility requirements, so that your office is usable to people with disabilities. 5% of the pods that seat more than one person must meet ADA accessibility requirements.
