Request a Rent Board fee exemption
If you believe your unit is not subject to the Rent Board fee, request an exemption between November 1 and December 15.
What to do
Submit your request using the Rent Board portal. You will get an email confirming that we received it.
Request status
Once we have processed your request, you will get another email with the status of your request. If you do not get an email, you can check the status in the portal.
Here's what your request status means:
Granted
If your exemption request is granted, you will not be billed the fee for that unit.
If there is just 1 unit in your property and you filed an exemption request by December 15, 2022, and you were granted an exemption for that unit, you should not receive an Annual Notice in January.
Denied
If your request is denied, you must pay your Rent Board fee.
Needs more information
If we need more information from you, we will let you know. Log back into the Rent Board portal and leave a comment or attach documents that respond to the information requested.
You must do this by December 15 or your request will be denied.
