Black Rodeo: We will be hosting a family field trip to the Bill Pickett Black Rodeo as part of our summer programming. Leading up to the trip, each level will engage in a week of learning centered on Black cowboy history and culture. Youth will watch episodes from High Horse: The Black Cowboy Docuseries and participate in lessons and activities that connect to the content. Activities will include exploring the history and legacy of Black cowboys, discussions on identity and representation, and creative projects such as designing their own rodeo posters, storytelling and reflection journals, and group discussions on perseverance, legacy, and breaking barriers. This experience is designed to connect learning with real-world exposure, allowing youth and families to celebrate and engage with an important part of Black history and culture together. My San Francisco, Our San Francisco: Our Neighborhood, The Tenderloin: Our entire Summer Program is called My San Francisco, Our San Francisco. During this week of study, the children will be focused on their neighborhood and place in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Children will create something to beautify the neighborhood. The intention is that the children will be "made visible" through their work this week, and the neighborhood will be more beautiful because of their collective efforts. Photos coming soon!

Design Your Future: Life Skills for Students: This event will support the Learn, Lead, Belong in San Francisco initiative by providing a fun and welcoming space for elementary students to explore new skills. Students in grades K–5 will learn through a hands-on LEGO engineering camp, where they can build, create, and practice problem-solving in an engaging way. Students will also participate in life skill activities such as gardening, cooking, poetry, music, basic nail care, and sewing. These activities will help students lead by building confidence, independence, and everyday skills they can use at home and in their community. Photos coming soon!

My Future, My Voice: This event will encourage youth to learn the basics of local government, they will be offered a practical leadership and critical thinking activity where they'll write letters to the mayor identifying 1) what they wish to see in the future in SF and 2) how one idea to encourage all people feeling like they belong in the city. Younger students will visit a park, then do a reflection design activity where they'll design their own inclusive playground or theme park. We'll tie this to a special park field trip and picnic. Community Care in Action: Thank You Cards & Baking for Our Local Heroes: This event brings together youth and our Women’s Adult Group in a meaningful intergenerational experience rooted in service, gratitude, and community connection. Participants will create heartfelt thank-you cards and bake homemade cookies for firefighters and police officers serving the Tenderloin district. This event is intentionally aligned with the “Learn, Lead, Belong in San Francisco” theme by engaging youth in a hands-on service-learning project that promotes civic responsibility, empathy, and appreciation for community helpers. Youth will learn about the important role first responders play in maintaining safety and stability in neighborhoods like the Tenderloin. They will lead by taking ownership of their roles—whether through creative expression or baking—and contributing to a collective act of gratitude. Through collaboration with peers, adults, and the broader community, youth will belong, strengthening connections across generations and fostering pride in their city. Photos coming soon!
Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation: Tenderloin After-School Program (TASP)
TASP Rising Leaders: Cultural Showcase & Story Circle: This is a family friendly evening that brings together our youth and their families to celebrate the many cultures that make up the Tenderloin. Families are invited to bring a dish that represents their heritage, and youth host story tables where they share a tradition, memory, or piece of their background that means something to them. After everyone eats together, we will move into an open mic and talent showcase where our youth step up to share what they love, whether that is a song, a dance, a poem, a skit, or a joke. Our teens will MC the night and help run the show, our tweens will lead small group story circles with families, and our younger youth will greet guests and help with setup. We will end the night with a community wall where youth write what makes them proud to be from the Tenderloin. This event will let our youth learn from each other, lead in a real and visible way, and feel a deep sense of belonging in their own community.
