What happens after a positive result

If you test positive for HIV or an STI:

  • We will notify you of your results.
  • We will help you get treatment right away.
  • If you test positive for an STI, we may be able to give you medication for your sex partners.

If you test positive for HIV or certain STIs, our LINCS team will reach out to you and offer confidential, voluntary help with telling your partners, so they can get tested and treated.

Patient confidentiality

Our services are confidential but not anonymous. This means that you’ll be asked to provide your name and date of birth, and an address and phone number if you have them.

This allows us to get in touch if you need treatment for a positive test result. You’ll also be asked why you came into the clinic and whether or not you have symptoms related to an STI.

Not every patient will be tested for HIV or STIs

Our experienced staff will talk with you and let you know what tests we can offer you.

Depending on your sexual practices and drug-use practices, we may need to refer you to your primary healthcare provider or somewhere else for HIV, HCV, or sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing.
