About workforce development
Putting people to work with soda tax dollars is a shared goal of the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax Advisory Committee (SDDTAC) and the Department of Public Health (DPH). The focus is to provide job readiness, skills training, and career pathways for people from the communities most impacted by sugary drinks—creating both job opportunities and improved services. Soda tax funded organizations are encouraged to hire and train local residents, as people are more likely to trust those from their own neighborhoods.
Funded programs train residents in diverse fields, including culinary arts, barbering, farming and horticulture, and community health.
