Seat numbers listed as “VACANT” are open for immediate appointment. However, you are able to submit applications for all seats and your application will be maintained for one year, in the event that an unexpected vacancy or opening occurs.

Pursuant to the Board of Supervisors Rules of Order all applicants applying for this body must complete and submit, with their application, a copy (not original) of a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). Applications will not be considered if a copy of Form 700 is not received.

Next Steps:
Applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be contacted by the Rules Committee Clerk once the Rules Committee Chair determines the date of the hearing. Members of the Rules Committee will consider the appointment(s) at the meeting and applicant(s) may be asked to state their qualifications. The appointment of the individual(s) who is recommended by the Rules Committee will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final approval.
Description:
The Public Utilities Commission Rate Fairness Board was established to:
1) Review the five-year forecast by an independent rate consultant who conducts rate and cost of services studies for each utility;
2) Hold one or more public hearings on annual rate recommendations before the Public Utilities Commission adopts rates;
3) Provide a report and recommendations to the Public Utilities Commission on the rate proposal; and
4) In connection with periodic rate studies, submit rate policy recommendations to the Public Utilities Commission for consideration, including recommendations to reallocate costs among various retail utility customer classifications, subject to any outstanding bond requirements.
The Rate Fairness Board shall consist of seven (7) members:
- City Administrator, or his/her designee
- Controller, or his/her designee
- Director of the Mayor’s Office of Public Finance, or his/her designee
- A residential City retail customer, appointed by the Mayor
- A large business City retail customer, appointed by the Mayor
- A residential City retail customer, appointed by the Board of Supervisors
- A small business City retail customer, appointed by the Board of Supervisors
Report:
The Rate Fairness Board shall provide a report and recommendations to the Public Utilities Commission on rate proposals.
