Application Process

Interested individuals should contact the Office of the City Administrator for more information on their nomination process.Description:The County Veterans Service Officer (“Officer”) was created to provide assistance to veterans in obtaining their federal entitlements, implementing a proactive outreach program and a Veterans Benefits Referral Program. The Officer shall provide full-service counseling and referral services to the entire community of veterans and the dependents or survivors of veterans of the City and County of San Francisco.This position is under the Director of the Department of Disability and Aging Services (“Director”) who shall recommend to the Board of Supervisors (“Board”) the qualifications and compensation for the Officer. The Director shall nominate candidates for appointment by the Board who are qualified to serve and must be a veteran, pursuant to California Military and Veterans Code, Section 970.Report:The Officer shall provide a semiannual report to the Board that shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following information: 1) the number of indigent veterans served; 2) number of homeless veterans served; 3) amount of federal entitlements obtained; and 4) actual savings to the City and County of San Francisco as a result of reductions in General Assistance payments, and any other City and County benefit programs to veterans who qualify for veteran’s benefits.Authority:California Military and Veterans Code, Section 972.1 and Administrative Code, Section 5.108.A-1.
