Application Process

Description:

The Committee on Information Technology (“COIT”) was established to review and approve the recommendations of the Chief Information Officer (“CIO”) for (1) the five-year Information & Communication Technology (“ICT”) Plan, (2) ICT plans, budgets, projects and staffing plans for City Departments, and (3) ICT standards, policies and procedures to enable successful development, operation, maintenance and support of the City’s ICT. COIT shall also ensure the most cost-effective and useful retrieval and exchange of information both within and among City Departments and from the City to the people of San Francisco.

COIT shall be composed of seven permanent voting members, or their designees, as follows:

  • Mayor
  • President of the Board of Supervisors
  • Controller
  • City Administrator
  • Chief Information Officer
  • Clerk of the Board of Supervisors
  • Executive Director of the Human Resources Department

Five additional voting members shall be Department Heads recommended by the Chair and approved by the five permanent members for two-year terms, one representing each of the major services areas:

  • Public protection
  • Human welfare and neighborhood development
  • Community health
  • Culture and recreation
  • General administration and finance

Three additional voting members shall be recommended by the Chair and approved by the five permanent members for two-year terms, representing the major service area of public works, transportation, and commerce.

There are also two additional non-voting members selected by the voting members and cannot be employees of the City and County of San Francisco and shall have expertise in fields of ICT innovation and advances, emerging ICT applications, and public policy issues related to ICT.

The Department of Technology shall provide support to COIT.

Report:

Performance and financial reports on the Department of Technology and all other City Departments’ ICT planning and purchases in the ICT Capital and Operating Plan and the annual reviews of the plan.
