Here’s an example of a letter/message that you can send (please feel free to edit or make changes to the wording to reflect what you would like to express to the Task Force):

"Dear Commission Streamlining Task Force,

I am writing to strongly recommend keeping the Commission of Animal Control and Welfare.

The Commission is the first city body dedicated to advocating for the protection and well-being of animals, and it serve a unique role by making recommendations and addressing issues affecting companion animals and wildlife in ways that a city department cannot.

Members of the Board of Supervisors and city departments often refer residents to the Commission, and many agenda items come directly from concerns voiced by the public.

Over the years, the commissioners (who receive no compensation for their work) have provided an essential public forum and compassionate, forward-thinking discussions and presentations. These have resulted in a number of recommendations that include the releasing of elephants from the San Francisco Zoo to a sanctuary, the banning of cat declawing, and ending pet store sales of dogs and cats from breeding mills.

At a time when the link between animal well-being, public health, and environmental responsibility is clearer than ever, we need the Commission’s voice at the table. Please do not silence or take that voice away.

Please recommend that San Francisco keep the Commission of Animal Control and Welfare.

Sincerely,

[Your Name)

[Your Neighborhood or District]"

About

As many of you are aware, San Francisco is reviewing all current commission and advisory bodies, committees and other public bodies as part of the passage of Proposition E. A new public body called the Commission Streamlining Task Force was created to make recommendations as to which city public bodies should continue (which public bodies to keep), which should be combined with other public bodies, and which public bodies should be eliminated.

Last week, the Commission Streamlining Task Force released their most recent list of interim decisions and recommended that the Commission of Animal Control and Welfare be eliminated. The Animal Commission is among the public bodies that the Task Force will be discussing (along with their most recent decisions) at their meeting on Wednesday afternoon, November 5th.

We are asking for letters/messages of support for the Animal Commission be sent to the Commission Streamlining Task Force, and we also want to inform people of the upcoming meeting in which they can attend and provide a public comment.

Thank you for your support!
