San Francisco Point-in-Time (PIT) Count

A biennial count of people experiencing unsheltered and sheltered homelessness at a given point in time. At least once every two years, communities that receive federal funding for homelessness services are required to conduct a Point-in-Time (PIT) Count. This count helps us understand how many people are experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness on a given night across the country.

2024 PIT Count

The 2024 Point-in-Time Count took place on January 30, 2024. On that night, teams of skilled outreach workers and volunteers covered the entire city of San Francisco, walking or driving through neighborhoods to count the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness – those sleeping on streets, in vehicles, or other places not meant for people to live.
