Request a fee waiver for properties in the Internal Audit

If your property was reviewed or issued an Notice of Violation (NOV) as part of DBI’s Internal Quality Audit, you may be eligible for a fee waiver.

Department of Building Inspection

Property owners who received a Notice of Violation through the Internal Quality Audit can request fee waivers to address the violations.

If you received a letter stating that your property was issued an audit-related Notice of Violation (NOV), follow the steps on this page.

If you received a letter stating that your property may not be fully code compliant, you can request DBI review of your property to have it included in the audit.

The deadline to request fee waivers is January 26, 2029.

1

Check if you qualify for the program

DBI's Audit Amnesty Program authorizes fee waivers for property owners whose buildings received an NOV as part of DBI’s Internal Quality Audit.

You may request fee waivers if:

  • Your property was reviewed as part of DBI’s Internal Quality Audit, and
  • Your property received an audit-related Notice of Violation (NOV).

Once you receive your letter determining what needs to be addressed for the fee waivers, the following will apply:

  • Planning code violations and fees will be waived, if applicable.
  • Building code violations must still be corrected, but DBI fees will be waived.
  • If you believe you are eligible for fees you already paid to correct audit-related violations, you can submit a refund request.

After January 26, 2029, any remaining audit-related violations will be handled through the City’s standard enforcement process, and fee waivers or refunds will no longer be available.

2

Submit your form

  2. Email the completed form to dbi.iat@sfgov.org by January 26, 2029.

You'll need to provide information about your property, Notice of Violation, the associated building permit application, cost of work, and your contact information.

Receive DBI's decision

After you submit your form, DBI will review your request and audit records, and then mail you a letter that may:

  • Confirm your eligibility for the fee waivers.
  • Identify the audit-related violations that must be corrected.
  • Explain what work is required and which violations and fees may be waived or refunded.
  • Outline next steps for correcting the violations.
