Artisanal Coffee Crawl

SOMA West has one of the highest densities of independent coffee shops and bakeries in San Francisco. Start your morning at Telescope Coffee, stroll over to the herbaceous Nosh Box, or the august Sightglass Coffee. Explore the bohemian Café Suspiro, the bold Heyma Yemeni Café, the Cuban‑inspired Social Café, and the musical Dento Piano Café. Don’t miss longtime neighborhood favorite Sextant Coffee Roasters, the hip new Saltwater Bake Shop, and the convivial Doppio Coffee. And yes — there’s a Peet’s too.

Recalibration Time

After a lively coffee tour, downshift and enjoy some mellower neighborhood vibes at Makunda Studio and Ritual Hot Yoga.

Pull It Together

Let's keep moving! SOMA West is home to several outstanding fitness and martial arts studios. Try Aikido at the 11th Street Dojo, Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Woodenman Muay Thai, or a variety of martial arts and conditioning classes at Rise Combat Sports. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned student, these studios offer welcoming environments to learn and grow.

Lunch Time

Fuel up with some of SoMa West’s most beloved eats. Grab a decadent, overstuffed sandwich at the famous Deli Board, some hot curry and tea leaf salad at Bay of Burma, or fresh hand-made pasta and chocolate cake at Agrodulce Provisions. From quick bites to cozy sit‑downs, there’s something for every appetite.

Elevate Your Mind

Now it’s time to take in the finer things. Check out our many art galleries with rotating exhibitions at SOMArts, Arc Gallery, Heron Arts, or Decentered Studios. Roam the stacks at the private Prelinger Library, or the historic ephemera and letterpresses at The Box SF. Peruse fine vintage furnishings at Design Plus Gallery.

Wine Down Your Mind

SoMa West offers plenty of welcoming spots to enjoy a refreshment. Enjoy a cool margarita at Azucar Lounge, make some new friends at the world-famous STUD, cheer on your favorite team at SoMa Social, or have a cocktail at Driftwood.

Enrich Your Palate

Enjoy an royal feast at Akari Japanese Bistro, whose chef previously served the Emperor of Japan, or try the two Michelin-starred Californios. Or head south to Bosco for an elevated Italian dinner.

Dance the Night Away

SOMA is the undisputed capital of dance clubs in San Francisco. Disco up the 11th Street corridor at DNA Lounge, Buzzworks, Butter, Bella, Audio Nightclub, Halcyon, and Eve; on the far side of the district, start at 1015 Folsom and continue on to Raven Bar, Cat Club, and F8. The neighborhood is also home to iconic LGBTQ+ leather‑community venues like Powerhouse, Hole in the Wall, Lone Star Saloon, and The Eagle — longstanding pillars of SoMa’s vibrant nightlife.

Getting to SoMa West

Getting to SoMa West is easy—several Muni bus lines (such as the 12 Folsom–Pacific, 14/14R Mission, 29 Sunset, and 44 O’Shaughnessy) serve stops right within the district, connecting with BART, Muni Metro, and other transit. For rail travel, hop on BART to Montgomery or Powell stations, or ride Muni Metro’s T Third Line to Yerba Buena/Moscone station—a short walk from the heart of SoMa West.

About SOMA West

SOMA West is geographically the largest district in San Francisco and it contains a multitude of fascinating histories and resilient communities.

Its unique urban street grid, historic buildings, wide streets and small alleyways all resulting from its fascinating past as an industrial, working class neighborhood that is inextricably linked to the larger history of San Francisco. Located in the heart of the City and boasting convenient transit access as well as freeway access, the neighborhood has faced and continues to face many challenges that have been met with creativity, ingenuity, and optimism by community members who have fought to make it more livable for all.

A Perfect Day in SOMA West was curated in partnership with SOMA West Community Benefit District.
