Mayor Lurie's Statement on San Francisco Winning 2027 WNBA All-Star Game
Office of the MayorFollows Last Week's Announcement That 2028 MLB All-Star Game Will Be Held at Oracle Park
SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today released the following statement after the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced plans to bring the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game to San Francisco’s Chase Center:
“In the last two years, the Golden State Valkyries have taken the sports world by storm—and San Francisco’s recovery is taking the world by storm, too. People are coming from across the world to visit our city, and we’re excited to welcome even more for the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game.
“San Francisco is the center of the sports world, especially the women’s sports world. After we hosted the Super Bowl, FIFA World Cup, and NBA All-Star Weekend, we are bringing the MLB All-Star Game and Vogue World to our city—because the world can see that San Francisco is the place to be. Chase Center has played a critical role in many of these events, hosting the Laver Cup last fall and welcoming hundreds of thousands of soccer fans to Thrive City during the World Cup, and I’m confident those fans will be back to watch FIFA Women’s World Cup matches next summer, too. When the WNBA’s best come next year, our unmatched passion for women’s sports, and our city’s comeback, will be on full display.
“Over the last several months, my team and I have worked closely with the Valkyries and Warriors leadership to prove that there’s no better place for one of the biggest events in women’s sports. We’ve continued to deliver safe and clean streets, driving down crime and bringing more visitors to our city.
“Major events like these help us keep the momentum going as fans eat at our restaurants, drink at our bars, and stay at our hotels—supporting the owners and workers at small businesses across the city. Next year, we will once again show the world that San Francisco, like the WNBA, is on the rise.”
