Mayor Lurie’s Statement on Continuing Work to Fix San Francisco’s Broken Permitting System

“San Francisco’s broken permitting system has prevented small businesses from opening, stopped us from building housing, and held back our economic recovery. Under PermitSF, we’ve made permitting faster, easier, and more transparent—as of yesterday, 75% of building permits are available on the PermitSF portal so we can build new homes more quickly. But we're just getting started.

“Thanks to our partnership with the Board of Supervisors, we have come together on a contract extension that will help us build on this progress and deliver even better results for San Franciscans. I want to thank Supervisor Stephen Sherrill for his leadership in fixing the permitting system for small business owners and homeowners across San Francisco. I also want to thank Supervisor Chyanne Chen for her partnership in getting this extension finalized.

“Every hour we save a small business owner is another hour they can spend serving San Franciscans, and every hour we save a homeowner is one they can spend with their family instead of at the Permit Center. In the next phase of PermitSF, we will keep our foot on the accelerator so homes can break ground sooner, businesses can open their doors faster, and San Francisco's recovery can continue moving forward.”
