Mayor Lurie, First Lady Prowda Celebrate Successful 'One City Day,' Encourage San Franciscans To Continue Serving Communities
Office of the MayorMore Than 4,000 People Signed Up to Participate in Over 170 Projects—Cleaning Up Litter, Planting Trees, Removing Graffiti in Neighborhoods Across City
SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie and First Lady Becca Prowda today thanked San Franciscans who participated in “One City Day,” a citywide day service, completing over 170 projects in neighborhoods throughout the city. Following the 13 kickoff events, more than 4,000 people signed up to participate in projects in their communities—including cleaning up medians and parks, weeding and planting trees, and removing graffiti.
The day of service builds on Mayor Lurie and First Lady Prowda’s work to bring service, accountability, and change to City Hall—values that have guided both of their personal and professional journeys. The mayor and first lady first met while both working at the Robin Hood Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty in New York City. Their shared commitment to serving others has shaped their lives and public service, with Mayor Lurie founding Tipping Point Community in 2005 to fight poverty in the Bay Area.
“Our values have always been what makes our city special. San Franciscans show up for each other, and that’s what we did on Saturday,” said Mayor Lurie. “I am so inspired by the people I saw and the work they were doing to make their neighborhoods cleaner, more beautiful, and more welcoming. Thank you to everyone who showed up for each other—there are so many ways to build on the work we did, and I’m excited to keep doing that work together.”
“One City Day was a love letter to San Francisco—written by more than 4,000 San Franciscans who gave their time, their energy, and their heart to this city on Saturday,” said First Lady Prowda. “I have spent my life believing in the power of service, and this day reminded me why. Thank you to everyone who showed up.”
Building on the weekend’s success, the One City Day team will continue communicating with participants to share upcoming service opportunities.
