Mayor Lurie Appoints Key Leaders to San Francisco Civic Groups

SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today announced three new appointees to key San Francisco boards, commissions, councils, and committees, bringing community leaders and policy experts into key roles for the city. The mayor has appointed Juan Carlos Cancino to the Housing Authority Board and Caitlin O’Malior to the Mayor's Disability Council. He also nominated Mahsa Hakimi to the Commission on Community and Investment and Infrastructure.
“These appointees will bring expertise, leadership, and a commitment to San Francisco’s vibrant communities and families,” said Mayor Lurie. “They will play a critical role in supporting our residents and families—ensuring the next generation of San Franciscans can afford to raise their kids in San Francisco. I’m looking forward to working alongside them to strengthen our communities and continue driving San Francisco’s recovery.”
Juan Carlos Cancino is a public sector leader with nearly 20 years of experience in law, policy, community development, and executive management. He currently serves as deputy assessor of operations in the Office of the Assessor-Recorder and has previously held positions in the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, as a legislative aide at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and as an attorney with California Rural Legal Assistance. His work across city government has consistently focused on aligning strategy with execution to deliver effective public services. Cancino is a Stanford University and Stanford Law School graduate and serves on the boards of Creativity Explored and the Greenhouse Project.
Caitlin O’Malior is an advocate and communications professional with over a decade of experience advancing accessibility and inclusion for the blind and visually impaired (BVI) community. O’Malior currently serves as project manager of advocacy, communications, and events at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired and has previously worked at California School for the Blind. She has experience empowering the BVI community—combining lived experience with professional expertise—and brings a unique blend of advocacy, technical skills, and community leadership.
Mahsa Hakimi is an attorney with more than 20 years of experience in business, intellectual property, and art law. As the founder of Hakimi Law, she has built a practice dedicated to protecting the interests of entrepreneurs, artists, and innovators through comprehensive, cost-effective legal counsel. Earlier in her career, Mahsa served as general counsel for Plug and Play Tech Center and Amidzad Partners. She has taught intellectual property and art law courses as an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University School of Law. Hakimi holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Cruz and a JD from Golden Gate University School of Law.
