Our hiring process

The Controller is the City's chief financial officer. Our team includes financial, technology, analytical and other professionals who work hard to secure the City's financial integrity and promote efficient, effective, and accountable government. Most of our positions are filled through the City’s merit-based Civil Service Examination process, but hiring will vary depending on the type of position for which you apply. 

The Controller’s Office Decentralized Examination Unit handles:

  • Administering and coordinating recruitment
  • Developing exams
  • Administering and scoring exams
  • Generating eligible lists for use by hiring departments
