HOPE SF Right to Return Preference Program
The HOPE SF Right to Return (RtR) program is intended to benefit current and former public housing residents of the Hunters View, Potrero, and Sunnydale sites. The program gives the highest lottery preference when former or current residents are applying to new tax-credit affordable units at Hunters View, Potrero, or Sunnydale HOPE SF communities. The program also applies to lotteries for waitlist opportunities.
Who is eligible
To be eligible for the program, applicants must document that they are a member of a household that formerly or currently occupies a public housing unit at Hunters View, Potrero, or Sunnydale, and is applying for an affordable lottery unit in the same community.
How to claim the preference
Documentation must be provided with your lottery application that demonstrate that at least one member of the household lived or currently lives at the public housing site. Applicants who do not submit sufficient documentation will not be eligible for the RtR lottery preference.
Required documents
Required documentation for the preference must show the household member’s name and public housing address on one of the following documents:
- Letter from SFHA verifying residency
- SFHA Lease
- SF City ID
- Telephone bill (landline only)
- Cable or Internet bill
- Paystub (listing home address)
- Public benefits records (e.g. SSI/SSDI, Medi-Cal, General Assistance, Unemployment Insurance, CalFresh)
- School record
MOHCD reserves the right to request additional information and documentation.
In the event that MOHCD determines that an applicant has provided falsified documentation of any kind, the application will be disqualified, removed from consideration and will not be included in the lottery.
Using the preference once
When a household member with a RtR preference signs a lease, that household member cannot use the preference again.
