Coaching is available for nonprofits that have at least one contract with the City. Read this one-pager to learn more about individualized coaching and other capacity building resources. The Controller’s Office may prioritize nonprofits referred through contract or fiscal monitoring.
What to do
1. Complete a Coaching Request Form
On the form, you will be required to tell us:
- Your nonprofit name and contact info
- Your funding department(s)
- Why you want coaching
- How much staff time you can commit to coaching
- Any other helpful information
2. Email supporting documents
Email supporting documents with the subject line: “Coaching Request: [name of nonprofit organization]” to nonprofit.monitoring@sfgov.org:
Attach materials that will help the Controller’s Office and coaches understand your organization’s current practices in financial management, program performance, and contract administration. Only include materials that are relevant to your coaching request.
For example:
- If you are seeking financial management support, attach your most recent Monitoring Report Letter.
- If you are seeking program performance assistance, attach your most recent performance report or program logic model.
Example Finance Documents
- Most recent Monitoring Report Letter, if available
- Most recent financial statements and, if available, most recent audit
- Current agency-wide budget
Example Program Documents
- Most recent performance report
- Program logic model
Example Contract Documents or Information
- Contract ID for the contract or grant that you have questions about
- Relevant internal policies or procedures related to challenge areas like invoice review
