In response to the pandemic, schools in San Francisco offered distance learning during the school year 2020-2021. The Community Hubs Initiative also supported children and youth with the highest needs.
Enabling children to fully return to their classrooms in school year 2021-2022 remains one of the City’s top priorities.

School reopening process and safety
To reopen for in-person instruction, TK-12 schools must:

Submit an application with a safety and health plan
-
Undergo a review of their ventilation
All San Francisco schools must meet safety standards to reopen. Both state guidance and local health directives outline these standards. Learn more on California's school reopening site.
