Yuchen Gao
2024 MCAH Epidemiologist Intern

Yuchen Gao graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Health Services Management. He has a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Global Health and Environment from the University of California, Berkeley. This academic pursuit is driven by his desire to understand the complexity of health issues better, learn how to respond to global health challenges, and gain more public health-related skills and knowledge.
During his internship with the SFDPH-MCAH Epidemiology team, he mainly focused on reporting the San Francisco Community Health Needs Assessment results, specifically highlighting racial-ethnic disparities by zip code and using Power BI software for data visualization.
His interests covered crucial public health topics aimed at improving health equity and addressing various health hazards. These interests include health risks and preventive measures for infectious disease exposure, environmental justice and health disparities between different populations or ethnicities, and the development of effective chronic disease prevention strategies. These diverse but interrelated fields highlight his passion for public health and his emphasis on universal health and equitable health development.
