Viviana Padelli is the AI Policy Principal in the Office of Emerging Technologies at the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Technology. She leads efforts to ensure the safe, equitable, and responsible use of AI across City operations, helping San Francisco balance innovation with accountability and public trust.

Before joining the City, Viviana worked with international and civil society organizations to develop policy frameworks addressing the risks of emerging technologies in the information space. She served as Lead Rapporteur on AI for the Forum on Information & Democracy, collaborated with the Anti-Defamation League on online harms and digital disinformation, and served on the editorial board of the World Manufacturing Forum. Earlier in her career, Viviana worked as a Senior Economic Advisor to a national business association and as an Assistant Economist at the UK Office of Fair Trading and the European Commission.

Viviana holds a Master of Public Affairs from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy, an M.S. in Economics from Tilburg University, and a B.A. in Economics from Bocconi University.
