Cinema on the Square: Detective Pikachu
Celebrate the Pokémon World Championships with a free outdoor screening of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu in the heart of San Francisco. On Saturday, August 29, Union Square Plaza transforms into an open-air theater where Trainers, fans, families, and visitors can come together for an unforgettable evening. The pre-show begins at 5:00 p.m. with entertainment and activities, followed by the film at 8:00 p.m. Grab a blanket, enjoy the excitement of championship weekend, and experience one of San Francisco's most iconic gathering places under the stars.
Traffic & Transit Updates
The 2026 Pokémon World Championship will take place from August 28-30 at the Moscone Center and at Chase Center. There will be street closures and traffic detours in SoMa near the Moscone Center from Tuesday, August 19, through Tuesday, September 1. Muni service will not require any reroutes for the duration of the event, though some minor delays may be possible in the area.
