School-based services

Image says: Healthy habits for school success. Building good dental habits early helps prevent future problems. Brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups help keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Kindergarten screening

  • ALL kindergarten students enrolled at SFUSD to receive a free dental screening.
  • Dentists and hygienists complete the screenings at the child's school during regular school hours.
  • The goal is to find out the oral health status of kindergarteners in San Francisco's public schools.
  • We identify children who need dental treatment, and offer them a link to dental care.
  • We work together with the private practice community to support families.
Image says: The key to cavity-free smiles flows here! Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens teeth. Dentists can apply fluoride varnish for extra protection, keeping your child's smile cavity-free.

Fluoride Varnish for Pre-K & TK students

  • Pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classes at SFUSD.
  • Fluoride varnish is a protective coating to prevent cavities.
  • Our staff will provide a dental screening and apply fluoride varnish at your child's school during regular school hours.

Dental sealants can prevent cavities when applied to molar teeth.
