The Sheriff’s Oversight Board of the City and County of San Francisco met in regular session on Friday, June 7, 2024, with President Julie D. Soo presiding.
President Soo called the meeting to order at 2:08 p.m.
President Soo thanked SFGovTV for recording and televising the meeting on Cable Channel 26.
ROLL CALL AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
On the call of the roll. Board Members Afuhaamango, Brookter, Nguyen, Palmer, Soo, and Wechter were noted present. Board Member Carrion arrived at 2:19 p.m.
All Members were present and there was a quorum.
President Soo led the Board Members and the audience in the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
President Soo thanked Supervisor Shamaan Walton for requesting a hearing on the Sheriff's Office at the Board of Supervisors' May 14, 2024, meeting. She also encouraged Board Members to watch the meeting online.
President Soo congratulated Board Member Brookter on the graduation ceremony of the Hunter’s Point Family and Young Community Developers, Inc.
Dan Leung, Board Secretary, welcomed members of the public to attend board meetings and provide public comment in-person, by email at sdob@sfgov.org, or by US Postal mail addressed to the Office of the Inspector General, 1 South Van Ness Ave, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103; and noted that in person comment was limited to 2 minutes with General Public Comment taken at the end of the meeting.
APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
There were no discussion or requests for corrections from any Board Members on the May 3, 2024, Regular Board Meeting Minutes.

Member Brookter, seconded by Member Palmer, moved to approve the May 3, 2024, Regular Board Meeting Minutes, as presented. The motion carried the following vote following public comment:
Ayes: Afuhaamango, Brookter, Carrion, Nguyen, Palmer, Soo
Nays: Wechter

INSPECTOR GENERAL REPORT
Inspector General Terry Wiley from the Office of the Inspector General, gave a report from the Office of the Inspector General on budget, jail lockdowns, and staffing.

SAN FRANCISCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE (SFSO) PRESENTATION
Patrick Leung, Chief Financial Officer for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, presented on SFSO budget and priorities.

RESCHEDULING JULY REGULAR MEETING
President Soo initiated the discussion on rescheduling the July SDOB regular meeting.

Member Carrion, seconded by Member Afuhaamango, moved to cancel the July meeting in its entirety and not reschedule it. The motion carried the following voted following public comment:

PUBLIC COMMENT:
Jennifer Blanco wanted a discussion and possible action on the San Bruno tear gas incident.
GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT
Jennifer Blanco, a resident in San Bruno, asked for a report on the tear gas incident when the investigation is complete and asked that the jails be better neighbors with the City of San Bruno.
Jesus Rios from the Latino Task Force, said the community has felt the budget cuts, asked the Board not to forget the community, and to work together to find a better solution.
