Requirments
All swimming pools and spa pool heaters require a Plumbing Permit to install. Some pool heaters, depending on the location, size, and type of swimming pool heater used, may be classified by the San Francisco Plumbing Inspection Division (PID) as a boiler and subject to Boiler Permit requirements. A swimming pool heater that exceeds 200,000 btu/h heat input (for both gas heaters and equivalent kilowatt for electrical heaters) is considered a Boiler.
