Our City & County PRIDE Committees

SF Public Health is proud to welcome the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), SF Recreation and Parks Department, Department of Human Resources, and San Francisco International Airport to our Pride contingent! We’re thrilled to stand together in celebration of inclusion, community, and pride.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is a department of the City and County of San Francisco responsible for the management of all ground transportation in the city. The SFMTA has oversight over the Municipal Railway (Muni) public transit, as well as bicycling, paratransit, parking, traffic, walking, and taxis. We serve San Francisco by creating transportation options that are constant, practical and everywhere; we connect people with their community to enhance the economy, environment and quality of life. We operate today's transportation system and work with our partners to plan the transportation system of tomorrow

San Francisco Recreation and Park Department

The first San Francisco Pride in 1970 included a march down Polk street and a Golden Gate Park “gay-in.” Today, our city parks continue to play an OUT-sized role in Pride celebrations, from the display of the Pink Triangle at Twin Peaks and the Aids Memorial Quilt at Golden Gate Park, to gathering for the Trans March and Dyke March at Dolores Park and Pride Celebrations at Civic Center Plaza.

The San Francisco Recreation and Parks LGBTQIA+ staff and families are honored to walk alongside their city colleagues this year and encourage everyone to play Outside with pride.

The Rec and Parks Pride Committee members are:

  • Anne Marie Donnelly
  • Maria Durana
  • Joel Riddell
  • Jennifer Hom

Have a gay-old time but remember to recycle your cans and pack out any rainbows and glitter wear you bring to the park.

Alejandra Avila-Yos & Sloane Gross – Oakland-Based Creatives on a Mission

Alejandra Avila-Yos (Ayo) and Sloane Gross, two powerhouse artists from Oakland, CA, bring a dynamic and intentional approach to their work, blending artistic innovation with a deep sense of purpose.

Ayo, born in Guatemala and raised in Oakland, has over a decade of experience in artistic design, photography, logo and brand identity, merch design, brand direction, and concept development. Her inspiration flows from cityscapes, natural beauty, and music, and her work is grounded in the tribal and intentional roots of these environments.

Sloane, an East Oakland native and lifelong resident, is an artivist whose mixed-medium displays of artivism, resistance, power, and love breathe life into the causes she champions. Her 3D pieces and 2D graphics amplify the voices of African American youth and youth of color, inspiring social justice action and community connection.

Together, Alejandra and Sloane created a graphic for the San Francisco Department of Public Health to be featured on a T-shirt design. The design centers around a butterfly, chosen deliberately to represent “queer health is resilient.” The butterfly symbolizes transformation, growth, and freedom—echoing the lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community as they navigate challenges related to health and well-being. This image embodies the resilience required to overcome systemic barriers, stigma, and discrimination, while also celebrating the beauty and strength found within queer identities.

The graphic is more than an image; it’s a visual narrative of healing and hope. Alejandra and Sloane wanted to highlight how queer health encompasses not just physical wellness, but also mental, emotional, and spiritual strength. By using the butterfly—a universal symbol of metamorphosis—they emphasize that resilience is ongoing, adaptive, and rooted in self-love and community care. This design stands as both an affirmation of survival and a call to action for continued support and visibility.
