Danny Thomas Vang

Danny Thomas Vang is a disability rights advocate, policy analyst, and project manager whose work bridges technology, policy, and social justice. Blind and Chinese American, he draws on his lived experience to advance accessibility and inclusion across sectors, including government, philanthropy, and technology. His previous work not only promotes disability access but also advances the recognition of disability as a cultural identity. As a former fellow at the Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability, he contributed to foundational effortsfor the nation's first municipally funded Disability Cultural Center, a space created by and for disabled people to foster community, artistic expression, and public dialogue.

In his current role, Danny leads the development and implementation of citywide technology policies, setting standards in areas such as digital accessibility, domain management, and generative artificial intelligence. He is project managing a citywide digital accessibility initiative in response to an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rule issued by the U.S. Department of Justice. This includes creating guidance, training, and support materials for technology, communications, and procurement teams across city departments.

Danny also convenes interdepartmental working groups, bringing together Digital Services, the Department of Technology, the City Attorney’s Office, and other stakeholders to institutionalize sustainable technology practices. He collaborates with peer jurisdictions at the local and state level, sharing best practices and strategic insights through cross-government forums.

His previous roles span the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, the Information Technology Industry Council, PayPal, Wells Fargo, and several teams within the City and County of San Francisco. Danny’s work is grounded in a cross-sectoral approach that combines strategy, personal experience, and deep community engagement to drive lasting impact.
