Occupational Therapy Services

OT bathroom safety

Our occupational therapists help patients safely participate in everyday activities by improving functional skills, adapting the home environment, and teaching strategies that support independence. As part of the San Francisco Department of Home Health, our OT team provides personalized care that empowers patients to live more confidently at home.

Improving Daily Living Skills

Occupational therapists assess how patients perform essential tasks such as bathing, dressing, cooking, and moving around the home. They develop individualized plans to strengthen abilities, simplify routines, and support safe, meaningful daily activity.

Home Safety & Adaptive Equipment

Therapists evaluate the home environment to identify safety risks and recommend modifications or adaptive equipment—such as grab bars, shower chairs, or mobility aids—to reduce hazards and improve comfort.

Recovery After Illness or Injury

Following hospitalization, surgery, or injury, occupational therapy helps patients regain functional skills and adapt to changes in strength, mobility, or cognition. Therapists guide patients through exercises and techniques that support healing and restore independence.

Support for Chronic Conditions

For patients living with conditions such as arthritis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, or cognitive decline, occupational therapists provide strategies to manage symptoms, conserve energy, and maintain daily routines.

Education for Patients & Caregivers

Therapists teach practical methods for safe movement, joint protection, equipment use, and task modification. Caregivers receive guidance on how to assist without causing strain or injury.
