Occupational Health Services (OHS) has implemented a new TB Flexibility Program for employees working at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) effective January 12, 2023.

TB Flexibility Program

Occupational Health Services (OHS) has implemented a new TB Flexibility Program for employees working at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG).

The program focuses annual TB surveillance for employees with a higher risk of TB exposure or increased likelihood of transmission to vulnerable populations.

Surveillance requirements applies to all employees assigned to work in the following 13 high risk departments consistent with ZSFG ATD exposure control plan and CDPH/CalOSHA requirements.

  • 4A Skilled Nursing facility (all staff)
  • 4C Hem-Onc Infusion (all staff)
  • Anesthesiology (all staff)
  • B-100 Dialysis unit (all staff)
  • Emergency Department (all staff)
  • Microbiology laboratory (all staff)
  • OTOP (Methadone Clinic) (all staff)
  • Pathology (all staff)
  • Pulmonary Department (all staff)
  • Respiratory Therapy (all staff)
  • TB Clinic (all staff)
  • Urgent Care Center (all staff)

ZSFG staff not identified in the group above, must complete an education learning module (ELM) titled "Tuberculosis Education and Annual Tuberculosis Risk Assessment" through the Department of Education and Training. All ZSFG staff must complete the ELM on an annual basis. The training can be accessed through your SF My Hub under SF Learning.

OHS will continue to offer annual TB Skin Testing (TST)/Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) tests to any employee who requests it, regardless of the department you work in.

For annual TB surveillance, TB Skin Testing (TST)/Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) Testing is offered daily, except on Thursdays and holidays. Call us to schedule an appointment or drop-in during our TB drop-in hours.

TB Drop-in hours: 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM daily, except Thursdays and holidays

DPH New Hires

A QuantiFERON (QFT) blood test is used for the TB surveillance requirement (February 2024 update).
