The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #5 and Update on the Number of Ballots Left to Count for the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, June 4, 2026 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the fifth preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the June 2, 2026, Consolidated Statewide Direct Primary Election.
Today’s preliminary results report includes 15,229 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the previous results report issued on Election Night.
The Department must still process and count approximately 128,300 ballots. This estimate includes:
- Vote-by-mail ballots: 122,000
- Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 6,300
Today’s estimate of vote-by-mail ballots to still count includes approximately 11,000 vote-by-mail ballots the Department received from the United States Postal Service on Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 4, which are postmarked on or before Election Day.
Department personnel will process and count ballots until 5 p.m. tonight. On Friday June 5, ballot processing will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.gov/observe.
The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots, which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results on Friday, June 5, 4 p.m.
When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
