Supervisor Shamann Walton Announces SFMTA Will Pause Use of Pier 68 For Storage For Towed RVs
District 10SAN FRANCISCO - Today, Supervisor Shamann Walton announced that the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has agreed to pause any use of Pier 68 to store tow vehicles as part of the Large Vehicle Program, which began implementation on November 1, 2025. The pause will last at least until March 1, 2026, as the SFMTA and partner departments look for another location to store large vehicles that are towed as part of the vehicle buyback component of the program.
“I appreciate SFMTA’s willingness to pause the use of Pier 68 and to work collaboratively to find a more appropriate location outside of District 10,” said Supervisor Shamann Walton. “Our communities deserve transparency and meaningful engagement, especially when decisions impact neighborhood resources. This pause gives us the necessary time to identify a solution that meets program needs without placing an undue burden on District 10 residents who have already borne more than their fair share.”
“We are committed to doing everything we can to find an alternative location outside of District 10 to meet this need,” said Julie Kirschbaum, Director of Transportation for SFMTA. “We appreciate our collaborative discussions with Supervisor Walton and we will redouble our efforts to connect with the community before deciding on locations for these kinds of operations.”
Pier 68 is within the jurisdiction of the Port of San Francisco, and SFMTA leased a portion of it to store towed vehicles. No large vehicles have been towed to Pier 68 to date.
