New City Ordinance Updates Rent Board Governance
Rent Board CommissionA new City ordinance updates the rules governing many San Francisco boards, commissions, and advisory bodies. Ordinance No. 99-26, also known as Board File No. 260217, became effective June 29, 2026.
The ordinance creates citywide definitions for “Commissions” and “Advisory Bodies,” establishes general rules for those bodies, and reorganizes parts of the Municipal Code.
For the San Francisco Residential Rent Stabilization and Arbitration Board, the ordinance confirms that the Rent Board is a City Commission and makes limited governance updates, including updates to the process for selecting the Rent Board's Executive Director.
The ordinance does not change tenant or landlord rights under the Rent Ordinance.
